The Education of Dogs and Owners

Group dog obedience classes run Monday and Thursday nights. Beginner classes start at 7:00 and end at 8:00 pm. Advanced classes start at 8:15 and end at 9:15 pm.

Beginners   “Canine Good Citizen”
Participants are introduced to the behavioral/social aspects of the “Canine Good Citizen”. A Canine Good Citizen is a dog that is a pleasure to own, safe around children and one that you would welcome as a neighbor. Create canine companions that are equally well behaved in public as they are at home. A dog that can confidently wait at a location, come when called, greet a friendly person or another dog, be accepting of grooming or handling, sit and down on command and walk on a loose leash. Classes will discuss the use of petting, play and food (as reward) in achieving these objectives.

City Dog   “Companion Dog Excellent”
Shaping a “Companion Dog Excellent” is not by accident. Participants will be challenged with the Open Exercise of off-leash control of their dogs. This class promises to advance handlers’ (and their dogs’) understanding of heeling, recall and retrieving. Handlers will learn the importance of precision and proofing in shaping confidence in their dogs advancing their relationships ‘beyond the habitual and into the intellectual’.
